The Edu2035 Manifesto

Human learning in the age of superintelligence.

Education was built for a world in which advanced cognitive capability was scarce. That condition is changing. The purpose of education must now be stated more deliberately: not merely to produce successful outputs, but to cultivate human beings capable of understanding, judgment, responsibility, and meaningful action.

  1. 01

    Begin with human purpose.

Education must begin with what humans should remain capable of doing—not with what machines cannot yet do.

  2. 02

Do not confuse performance with development.

A system’s ability to perform a task does not determine whether learning that task still matters for human judgment, agency, or responsibility.

  3. 03

Task completion is no longer sufficient evidence.

When powerful assistance is always available, a successful output cannot by itself demonstrate what a learner understands or can independently do.

  4. 04

    Decide where capability must reside.

For every consequential capability, education should ask what must remain executable by the person, what may be distributed, and what can be delegated.

  5. 05

    Separate assistance from dependence.

AI may remain available even when strong human capability is required. Assistance availability and required human capability are different design decisions.

  6. 06

    Preserve productive friction.

Not every difficulty is waste. Some struggle, uncertainty, practice, and reflection are the conditions through which capability is formed.

  7. 07

    Teach more than tool use.

Learners must learn when to act independently, when to augment themselves, when to supervise systems, and when delegation is responsible.

  8. 08

    Make capability visible.

Educational evidence must distinguish what resides in the learner, what resides in external systems, and what emerges only through their coordination.

  9. 09

    Redesign institutions around continuity.

Learning can no longer be treated as a short phase followed by a lifetime of application. Institutions must support capability across changing tools, roles, and stages of life.

  10. 10

Keep the future open to human judgment.

Education in the age of superintelligence must protect the capacities through which people can question systems, assume responsibility, and shape collective life.
